Raipur, March 19
In an indomitable gesture to propel people to aiding accident victims without faltering, Raipur police have come out with a unique initiative to salute the saviors.
The idea popped up in the mind of Raipur’s Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Singh, who instantly directed his subordinate to execute it. Under the plan, the Traffic Police of Raipur had put hoardings at prominent public places displaying the photographs of six Good Samaritans who saved the lives of those injured in a road accident by quickly helping them.
“I have directed the Traffic Police Raipur to encourage and reward the people every month who prevent road accidents and provide quick medical treatment to the injured in road accidents by identifying them as Good Samaritans,” the 2011-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer said. To start with, he honored six Good Samaritans in the control room who saved the lives of the injured in road accidents by providing prompt assistance.
The Additional Superintendent of Police Traffic and Protocol, Anurag Jha and Deputy Superintendent of Police Traffic Raipur Gurjeet Singh were present on the occasion. The Raipur police initiative is powered by the report that 1.5 lakh people die every year in road accidents and the main reason is the lack of prompt medical treatment for the injured.
Singh said the first thirty minutes during a road accident had been called the golden hour. During this time, if the injured person is taken to the hospital by any means or medical care is provided, the life of the injured person can be saved. “But in most of the road accidents, people make videos and photos from mobile phones but no measures are taken to save the life of the injured,” he added.
Besides, people are reluctant to avoid facing normal and nominal legal proceedings. Singh said he had directed all the police station in-charges to give maximum publicity to the Good Samaritans for providing quick help to the injured in road accidents occurring in the police station area and to raise awareness about the Good Samaritans who save lives by providing quick help to the injured. They would be felicitated and rewarded for the noble cause. They were given mementos and citations.
