Raipur, November 10
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh backed the commitment of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over bestowing greater responsibility to bureaucrat-turned-politician O P Choudhary.
The 2005-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, Choudhary quit the bureaucracy while holding the coveted position of Raipur District Collector in August 2018. Fondly known as OP among well-wishers and followers, he rose to popularity in the BJP organisation. The party has fielded him to contest the assembly election from Raigarh constituency.
On Thursday, Shah stirred the political cauldron by hinting important positions for OP after the election. “You elect OP Choudhary as MLA, we will take care to make him a big person,” Shah told the voters in Raigarh while leading a roadshow in favour of the BJP candidate.
Shah said that when he was the President of BJP, he had told OP Chaudhary not to resign and one day he would become the Chief Secretary of the state. “But he said, no, enough work, now I have to resign and serve the people of Chhattisgarh,” the Union Home Minister said.
The statement added significance as the BJP has not projected any face in the on-going assembly elections in Chhattisgarh. Political observers underlined that OP could be given an important position if the BJP returned to power in the state.
Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh backed Shah and said if he (Amit Shah) had said so, then OP Choudhary will definitely be given some big responsibility in the coming days.
