Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai Monday disbursed Rs 653.85 crore as the fifth instalment of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana to more than 7 million eligible women.
The scheme, which as a part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantee, has been launched in Chhattisgarh to provide financial assistance of Rs 1000 per month to eligible married women of the state as monthly DBT. It has been envisioned to ensure economic empowerment of women, provide them financial security, promote gender equality and strengthen the decisive role of women in the family.
The scheme will provide benefits to all eligible married women of the state who are above 21 years of age as of January 1, 2024. Widows, divorced, and deserted women will also be eligible for this scheme. Around 70 lakh women will benefit from the scheme.
Sai launched the Mahtari Vandan Yojana within three months of taking over as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. The first instalment of the Mahtari Vandan Yojana was released by the Prime Minister on March 10. The Mahtari Vandan Yojana, reflecting values of good governance, ensures transparency through DBT fund transfers.
The regular instalments have brought significant relief to many women, enabling them to manage household budgets, support children’s education, and invest in the future. At the recent Jandarshan, a large number of women expressed their happiness and praised the scheme for bringing prosperity into their lives. They acknowledged that such a beneficial scheme for women had not been implemented in the state before, and it is helping in fulfilling their dreams.
