The health machinery in Chhattisgarh capital has been put on alert as a teenager has shown symptoms of monkeypox.
The teenager suspect is a resident of Purani Basti in the heart of the capital city. He has been admitted to the Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar hospital and kept in the observation ward.
District Medical Officer Dr Meera Baghel said a 12-year-old teenager had come to the OPD for examination. Seeing the symptoms, the doctors hospitalized him.
The sample has been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for examination. The suspect is a native of Kanker district and has been staying in a hostel run by a temple management in the state capital for studying.
The health officials said the samples of 18 children staying with him had also been sent for confirmation. Once the report comes, it would be confirmed that monkeypox had hit Chhattisgarh.
The Raipur Municipal Corporation has sanitized the area while the temple has been closed for the visitors for next 1 week. There are 20 more students in the hostel, who have been isolated.
The COVID cases are also surging in Chhattisgarh. While the state reported 543 cases on Monday, it rose to 640 on Tuesday.
