The only surviving child in the devastating school auto-truck collision in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district last week passed away in Raipur today morning, increasing the death toll to eight.

The tragic incident took place between Korar and Bhanupratappur on Thursday afternoon while the children were returning from the school in the auto-rickshaw. A speeding truck collided with the auto. The impact of the collision was so severe that the truck dragged the auto several feet before skidding off road in a field.

There were eight school children in the auto. Of them, seven died on the spot itself while one child and the auto driver were seriously injured. Initially, they were admitted to Kanker government hospital but were referred to the state capital as their health deteriorated.

Sources said the child passed away on Tuesday morning leaving no survival among the children in the tragic incident that reportedly happened due to the serious negligence of the auto driver.

The auto driver was eating nuts while driving and lost control over the handle and collided head on with the speedy truck.
