Chhattisgarh government would reportedly auction 16 blocks in the coming two months.

Union Minister for coal and mines Pralhad Joshi today had a virtual meeting with Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel to follow up on mining reforms. In a tweet, the Union Minister appreciated Chhattisgarh Chief Minister for proactively taking the steps to bring more mines into auctions, which will increase production and employment in the state.

“Hon’ble CM has assured to auction more than 16 blocks over the next 2 months. These will be from long-standing blocked mines that have reserves of 1192 MT worth nearly Rs 1.9 lakh crore,” Joshi added in the tweet. He deliberated on several ongoing issues pertaining to coal and mineral mining in the State.

The Government is working with the State administration to facilitate early operationalization of auctioned mines, he added. The Union Minister also urged Bhupesh Baghel to expedite operationalising of recently auctioned commercial coal blocks that will increase mineral production and generate employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, emphasizing on promoting iron-ore based industrialization in Bastar, Chhattisgarh government is eyeing to bag Bailadila Deposit No-1 in state’s Dantewada district.

The Bailadila hill range, which consists of world class iron ore, had deposits from 1 to 14. NMDC had been operating two fully mechanised mines that contribute lion’s share to the country’s largest iron-ore producer and exporter’s total output.

A top official in the state administration told News Riveting that a presentation was given to the Union Minister with a request to reserve Bailadila Deposit No 1 in favour of Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation.

The state government said it would promote iron ore based industries in Bastar. “The demand of raw material for iron ore based industries in the state will also be fulfilled,” the state government said.
