In a major boost to promote higher education, Chhattisgarh government has decided to open English medium colleges across the state.

“Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has decided to start Swami Atmanand English Medium Adarsh Mahavidyalaya in Chhattisgarh in a phased manner in the interest of the students of the state,” a state government spokesperson said. Earlier, the state government has started Swami Atmanand English Medium School to provide quality education in English medium to the children of weaker sections and middle-class families of the society.

Last year 51 schools were started. Seeing the grand success and the demand, the number of Swami Atmanand English Medium Schools has been increased to 247 at present.

The Chief Minister has directed the Chief Secretary to submit an action plan in this regard in 10 days. Now with the start of Swami Atmanand English Medium Adarsh Mahavidyalaya, children studying in the Atmanand English schools as well as children of private English medium schools will not have to go out for higher education in English medium. The state will ensure quality higher education in English medium in the state itself.

Due to lack of English medium government colleges in the state, students of the state have to take admission in metropolitan colleges for higher education after passing class 12th, which is a costly affair too.

In the first phase, from the coming academic session June 2023, at least 10 English medium colleges will be opened in major cities of the state. Similarly, in the next three years, English medium colleges will be opened in all the district headquarters of the state.
