Raipur, January 5

Marking the DSIR Foundation Day, the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) signed multiple agreements and MoUs with partner institutions to strengthen India’s innovation and industry ecosystem.

Among these, a significant development for Chhattisgarh was the agreement to establish a Skill Satellite Centre at Dhamtari under DSIR’s Technology Development and Utilization Programme for Women (TDUPW).

The proposed Skill Satellite Centre in Dhamtari will focus on technology-led skilling, entrepreneurship development and income-generation opportunities for rural and tribal women. Through hands-on training, exposure to appropriate technologies and linkages with markets, the centre aims to convert local skills into sustainable livelihoods. Priority areas will include food processing, forest-based products, textiles, handicrafts, renewable-energy devices and digital services.

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai welcomed the decision, stating that technology and skill development are the twin engines of development in Chhattisgarh. He added that the initiative aligns with the “Viksit Bharat 2047” vision and the State Government’s commitment to building a self-reliant rural economy where women are not just beneficiaries but leaders of growth.

Chief Minister Shri Sai further said that Chhattisgarh’s rich network of Self-Help Groups, Lakhpati Didi initiatives, Van Dhan Vikas Kendras and Livelihood Mission platforms will be integrated with the new Skill Satellite Centre. This will ensure that women trained through the Centre find immediate avenues for enterprise creation, credit access and marketing assistance, creating a multiplier effect across the region.

The establishment of the Skill Satellite Centre in Dhamtari is expected to strengthen the State’s ongoing efforts in skill development, women empowerment, startup promotion and grassroots innovation. With DSIR’s technical support and the State Government’s field outreach, the initiative is poised to transform Dhamtari into a model district for technology-enabled women entrepreneurship in Central India.
