The urban bodies in Chhattisgarh will go to the polls on February 11 while elections in panchayats will be held in three phases starting February 17
The State Election Commissioner, Ajay Singh on Monday afternoon announced the dates of urban body and three-tier panchayat elections in Chhattisgarh. With the notification, the model code of conduct has come into force in the state.
Voting will be held on 11 February for the urban bodies that will go to the polls in single phase. The filing of nominations will begin from January 22 and the last date for the withdrawal of nominations will be January 31, Singh said. The counting of votes will be held on February 15, he added.
The Panchayat elections in Chhattisgarh will be held in three phases. The nominations will be filed from January 27 to February 3. The voting will be held on February 17, 20 and 23, Singh said.
Under the urban bodies in the state, general elections will be held in 10 Municipal Corporations, 49 Municipal Councils, 114 Nagar Panchayats. Besides, by-elections will be held in 5 wards to fill the vacant seats in the urban bodies of Durg and Sukma districts.
A total of 44,74,269 voters will cast their votes in the general elections of municipalities, out of which 22,00,525 are men, 22,73,232 are women and 512 are other voters. In the by-elections, a total of 16,181 voters will participate in the voting. The electoral rolls containing photographs of the voters have been prepared by the commission.
For voting, a total of 5,970 polling stations have been set up for the general election and 22 polling stations have been set up for the by-elections, out of which 1531 are sensitive and 132 are highly sensitive polling stations.
