The 2010 batch IAS officer from Bihar cadre, Rachna Patil had been appointed as the new District Magistrate of trouble-torn Munger district.

Rachna originally hails from Rajnandgaon district in Chhattisgarh and replaced Rajesh Meena. She joined Munger immediately on orders of the Election Commission (EC) of India which ordered immediate removal of incumbent DM, Rajesh Meena who was directed to report to police headquarters at Patna.

The controversial Superintendent of Police, Lipi Singh, an IPS of 2016 batch has also been removed on instructions of the EC. Manavjit Singh Dhillon, an IPS of 2009 replaced Lipi, daughter of the ruling JDU’s powerful MP, RCP Singh, who is also a former principal secretary to Nitish Kumar.

On orders of EC, officers in charge of two police stations in Munger town were relieved of their duties.

Rachna took charge at a time when Munger district had been in flames. Violence erupted in the town on the third day of firing on Durga idols immersion procession. Offices of SP and SDM were attacked and many police vehicles were torched today.

The biggest task for the new District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police is to restore normalcy in the district at the time when the election process is underway in the state.

Rajasthan Congress leader Sachin Pilot at a press conference today alleged the controversial SP ordered a brutal attack on Durga Puja devotees as she was encouraged by Nitish Kumar.
