Chhattisgarh’s first elevated solar power plant of 200 KW capacity is being installed under the joint aegis of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) and Chhattisgarh State Renewable Energy Development Agency (CREDA) at Maitri Baag in Bhilai.

This will enable supply to the grid-connected solar power plant of SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant, for which installation and commissioning work has already started. The purpose of setting up this solar power plant as an elevated model is that the land beneath it can be used to produce fodder for animals. The electricity generated from the project will be used in Maitri Baag and the adjoining Jawahar Udyan.

This solar plant is one of the tallest structures used for setting up solar power plants, its front height is 3.5 meters which gradually increases as it moves backwards to a height of 5.5 meters from the ground. To achieve this height and maintain the stability of the whole structure, it is designed in such a way that it weighs around 30 tons. This is one of the heaviest solar structures used for setting up a 200 kW solar power plant.

This solar power plant is being installed using the latest monocrystalline bifacial solar modules of Make Icon Solar-EN which have high efficiency as well as increase solar production and use less area as compared to other modules. This solar power plant will be installed in an area of 30 x 40 meters which is approximately 1200 square meters. It will generate 24000 units of electricity per month and minimum 2,88,000 units of electricity per year.

After the installation of this solar power plant, Maitri Bagh will have a financial saving of Rs 2,00,000 per month. Along with this, this solar power plant will save 250 kg of carbon dioxide emission per day. It is known that as per the project agreement, after the construction of the solar power plant, its maintenance work will also be conducted by CREDA for 5 years.

Pawan Kumar, ED (HR) performed Bhoomi Pujan for the establishment of this solar power plant at Maitri Baag on 30 July 2024.. This project promotes green energy production. It is known that green energy is a term for energy obtained from renewable sources. Green energy is often referred to as clean, sustainable or renewable energy. The production of green energy does not release toxic greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which means that it has little or no effect on the environment.
