Chhattisgarh’s maiden pickleball meet

Under the aegis of Chhattisgarh State Pickleball Association (CSPA), the first state-level competition of the paddle game will be held in the capital city on Sunday

The competition will be held in the union club at Raipur. More than 100 players across different clubs, institutes and states are likely to participate in the event.

Pickleball is a simple paddle game played with a baseball-sized wiffleball over a tennis-type net on a Badminton-sized court. Only the serving team can score points. Points are scored by legally serving a ball that is not returned by the opponent or by winning the rally.

In Chhattisgarh, pickleball was started by Arjun Singh Shekhawat of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Shekhawat has expressed his gratitude to the Raipur Press Club for providing a pickleball practice court in its premises.

According to the organisers, the event will have under-14 boys and girls single and doubles competition, men’s and women’s open single and doubles, mixed doubles besides 45 Plus single and doubles. The players from different clubs and institutes located in Raipur, Bastar and Bilaspur divisions will be participating in the event.

The CSPA has been recently constituted with Kamaljeet Singh Hora as its President and Rupendra Singh Chouhan as Secretary. The General Secretary of Chhattisgarh Olympic Association, Gurucharan Singh Hora has been appointed as the Vice President of Indian Pickleball Association.
