Chhattisgarh has bagged yet another national award as Narayanpur district received citation from the Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation for the excellent performance in Jal Jeevan Survey 2023.

Public welfare schemes and programs of Chhattisgarh are being widely appreciated at the national level. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Chhattisgarh has bagged several national awards, honours and achievements. And now, adding another feather to the cap, Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has honoured Narayanpur district with a citation for the excellent work in the Jal Jeevan Survey 2023 under the Aspirational District Program. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has congratulated the residents of Narayanpur district and the officers-employees of Jal Jeevan Mission engaged in this work, for this achievement.

It is noteworthy that providing safe drinking water to every rural household in Narayanpur district was a challenging task, because of the difficult geographical location. But the task was accomplished despite the challenges, and for this accomplishment, Narayanpur district has been honoured by the Government of India, under Aspirational District Program. The ‘Jal Jeevan’ Survey was conducted by the central government from 1 October 2022 to 30 June 2023 and the work of Narayanpur district among aspirational districts was found to be excellent. For Narayanpur, Jal Jeevan Mission had set a target of providing safe drinking water to 30 thousand 322 families, out of which tap connections have been provided to 18 thousand 72 families. There are 14 villages in the district, where each and every household has been equipped with the tap connections.

Remarkably, on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Jal Jeevan Mission is being implemented on a mission mode across the state. Mission Director Jal Jeevan Mission Mr. Alok Katiyar said that under the competent guidance of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, desired progress has been achieved with standard quality in the works of Jal Jeevan Mission. Presently, an average of 7000 domestic connections is being provided in the state per day, and so far, 60 percent families have got the domestic connections. Till date, “Har Ghar Jal” certification has been awarded to a total of 422 villages of the state.

It is noteworthy that there are two development blocks in Narayanpur district, Orchha and Narayanpur. Major part of the development block Orchha comes under Abujhmad, which is spread over an area of about 4 thousand square kilometers and is surrounded by mountains and dense forests. Because of the remote geographic location, this region was not surveyed in the past. There are more than 275 villages in this un-surveyed area. But in the interest of the farmers, Chief Minister had given instructions to conduct a mass survey of this region, which is presently in progress in ‘Masahati’ villages. Solar pump based drinking water schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission are proving to be a boon for the villagers living in far-flung settlements of this district.

Under ‘Har Ghar Jal Utsav’ programme, every house in 6 villages of Narayanpur district was equipped with tap connection and was certified for the same. The task of providing tap connections to all the households is nearing completion in villages like Udidgaon, Gulumkodo, Kokodi, Kundla, Khadkagaon, Guria and Palli and other inner villages of development block Orchha. 338 solar based schemes have been completed in the district, continuous water supply is being ensured through solar based drinking water schemes in remote forest areas, thus remote villages without electricity also have access the drinking water facility.

Katiyar said that under Jal Jeevan Mission, every possible step is being taken to make Narayanpur  the first ‘Har Ghar Jal district’ in the state by providing household tap connections to 100 percent of the families here.
