Mrs Chhaya Mishra, a senior woman advocate of Bihar, has urged the Union finance minister to introduce welfare and insurance schemes for lawyers in the budget 2021-22.
In a letter sent to Union Finance Minister Mrs Nirmala Seetharaman, the former joint secretary of the Advocates Association, said lawyers had been hit hard throughout the year due to lockdown induced by the pandemic. Following the closure of courts, advocates literally became pauper.
In the special economic packages launched in three phases to rejuvenate the economy, no relief was proposed for the advocates.
Mrs Chhaya Mishra demanded a group insurance scheme for practicing lawyers with a cover of Rs 20 lakhs each, welfare fund of Rs 2,000 crore as corpus fund and group insurance scheme for all advocates from munsif courts to Supreme Court.
