As the 13th round of India-China Corps Commander Level Meeting failed, China had started fortifying its border and had deployed 100 rocket launchers near Indian boundary.
India and China have held several rounds of diplomatic and military talks to resolve the nearly year-long friction along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
The 13th meeting of the senior military commanders was held on last Sunday at Chushul-Moldo border meeting point. The meeting however failed though the two sides had completed the withdrawal of frontline troops with armoured formations and artillery from the banks of Pangong Lake.
China has deployed more than 100 advanced long-range rocket launchers to its high-altitude borders with India, the South Chine Morning Post reported quoted a source close to the Chinese military. The source said the People’s Liberation Army was ramping up defences in preparation for the Himalayan winter and in response to the Indian Army’s deployment of three regiments with M777 ultra-light howitzers along the contested Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
Both sides had sent more supplies to high-altitude areas as winter approaches. “The PLA has deployed more than 100 PCL-181 light, truck-mounted howitzers along borders with India,” the source said, adding that the firing range of the Chinese-developed launcher is double that of the M777.
According to military experts, the PLA has overwhelming superiority in terms of weapons and equipment. “But the most challenging enemy in the winter is not weapons, but the weather,” they added. However, the Indian military had also made contingency preparations for the winter deployment.
