Having received a major setback in the Galwan valley following a border clash with Indian Army, China has developed an armoured vehicle to be used in the high terrains.
The Chinese People Liberation Army (PLA) Xinjiang Military Command forces stationed in plateau regions had commissioned amphibious rescue vehicle that would be ‘useful in Galwan-like terrain’. A new type of amphibious armoured vehicle for rescue missions, defence analysts pointed out that its amphibious capability meant it could perform well in valley-spread high altitude border regions like Galwan Valley.
The state-affiliated media quoting the China Central Television (CCTV) reported that the indigenously developed vehicle demonstrated its capabilities over normal field rescue vehicles and manpower while inducting into the service at an undisclosed military base at an elevation of more than 4,300 meters.
The front and two sides of the vehicle can resist close-range hits from 7.62mm armour-piercing rounds and shrapnel from explosives while its eight wheels can run at 40 km an hour for 100 km even when penetrated by 12.7mm rounds. The vehicle is also designed to withstand nuclear, biological and chemical attacks.
In an exercise, the vehicle reached the rescue point 4 km away within only five minutes despite complicated road conditions in the high-altitude mountains, the report said.
It is equipped with medical resources including electrocardiogram monitors and respirators that will facilitate simple surgeries for the heavily wounded, winning time for later treatments and letting the minorly wounded return to combat as fast as possible.
The new rescue vehicle is powered with amphibious capability that would help China in the western border regions like the Galwan Valley where it had a fatal conflict with India last year and the harsh-cold river water played spoilsports.
