Kedarnath, October 18
A helicopter carrying Kedarnath pilgrims from Phata in Uttrakhand crashed on Tuesday morning killing six people including two pilots.
The incident took place 2 km from Kedarnath. The bodies have been recovered from the accident spot, senior district administration officials said, adding that rescue operation was launched soon after getting the information.
Besides police, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team also rushed to the crash site to carry out the search and rescue operation. The helicopter belonging to private firm carrying pilgrims from Phata, crashed due to technical snag, the preliminary findings revealed. The visuals coming from the crash site shows hilly terrain and low handing clouds.
Reacting to this crash, Union Civil Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia tweeted, “The helicopter crash in Kedarnath is extremely unfortunate. We are in touch with the State government to ascertain the magnitude of the loss, and are constantly monitoring the situation.”
