CJI to deliver convocation address at 9th Convocation of HNLU in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, February 20

Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), a premier institution of legal education in Chhattisgarh, ranked 42nd globally in the Leadership Category by the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), will hold its 9th Convocation on 22 February 2026 (Sunday).

The Chief Justice of India, Justice Surya Kant, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and deliver the Convocation Address. Justice Ramesh Sinha, Chief Justice of the High Court of Chhattisgarh and Chancellor of HNLU, will confer degrees upon 6 Ph.D., 88 LL.M., and 148 B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) graduates in the presence of their proud parents and guardians.

The Convocation Ceremony is scheduled from 2:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at the Emerald Hall, Hotel Babylon Capital, Raipur. Attendance is by invitation.

The event will also be graced by Vishnu Deo Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Justice P S Narasimha, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Member, Executive Council, HNLU, Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, Judge, Supreme Court of India as Guests of Honour.

The ceremony will also witness the gracious presence of Justice Parth Prateem Sahu of High Court of CG, Justice P Sam Koshy of High Court of Telangana, Justice G Raghuram, former Director of NJA Bhopal, Judges of the High Court of Chhattisgarh, prominent academicians and Vice-Chancellors from leading institutions across the country, members of the Bar, and senior government officials will also attend the ceremony.

The Convocation will witness the awarding of 36 Gold Medals to 10 Undergraduate and 3 Postgraduate students for exceptional academic achievement. These include prestigious distinctions such as the Chancellor’s Gold Medal, the University Gold Medal for the Best Outgoing Student, Chhattisgarh State Bar Council Gold Medal, Late Kamal Narayan Sharma Gold Medal, Late Smt. Shanti Devi Agrawal Memorial Gold Medal, Vidyadhar Mishra Memorial Gold Medal, Dinesh Prasad Srivastava Memorial Gold Medal, Late Shri Hamidullah Khan (Ex-MLA, Kabirdham) Gold Medal, Late K P Munshi Gold Medal, Syed Wakil Ahmed Rizvi Gold Medal among others.

Recent Highlights of HNLU (2025) Institutional Welfare & Policy Initiatives include Medical reimbursement under the Health Shield Programme enhanced from ₹9,000 to ₹30,000 for faculty and staff. Launch of the Staff Compassionate Fund Policy with a ₹1 crore corpus to support employees and outsourced personnel during medical emergencies, bereavement, accidents, and natural
calamities.

Research & Grants include Project on Climate Change Legislation for Chhattisgarh, sanctioned by the Chhattisgarh State Centre for Climate Change under the Department of Forest & Climate Change, Government of Chhattisgarh. Major Research Project by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR): Understanding the Abujh Maria Language, Culture, Society and Economy.

Project Justice Connect: ₹3.35 crore grant from Azim Premji Foundation (2025–2028) to strengthen access to justice, enhance litigation capacity, and promote pro bono legal education across
Chhattisgarh.

The Convocation will be preceded by the Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of the New Auditorium Complex (estimated cost: ₹50 crore) at the HNLU campus by the Chief Justice of India. The Chief Guest will also inaugurate the newly established R-HaS (Research Hub and Spoke) Block, comprising 30 research chambers and a Board Room, significantly strengthening the University’s research infrastructure.

HNLU continues to contribute meaningfully to the advancement of legal education and institutional excellence.
