Coal India Limited: SECL employees attacked, 5 injured

Over a dozen miscreants Thursday evening struck at a facility of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Chhattisgarh-based arm of Coal India Limited (CIL), and attacked the security guards injuring five personnel.

Of the injured, the condition of two was reported to be serious. The incident took place at the Balgi workshop of SECL under Bankimongra police station in Korba district at around 6.15 pm. Based on the complaint of one of the injured, Rohit Kumar, the police have launched an offence under sections, 294, 506, 323, 324 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against unidentified persons.

In his complaint, Rohit Kumar said three to four persons approached from Kapatmunda village and struck into the workshop to decamp with the scraps. When the security personnel intercepted, they started abusing and attacked the party. Around seven to eight persons armed with sharp weapons, who were standing at a distance, also joined them.

The miscreants brutally bashed up the security personnel and escaped from the place before the police reached the spot within 20 minutes. The miscreants reported pelted stones at the police party, injuring one constable.

The seriously injured security guard had been shifted to a hospital in Bilaspur for better medical care. The police are investigating the matter.
