State-run Coal India Limited (CIL) has posted over 11 per cent growth in the coal production during the first two quarters of the financial year 2023-24.
Country’s largest coal producer reported an output of 332.9 million tonnes (MT) in the April-September period that also concludes the first two quarters of the financial year. Compared to previous year’s 299 MT, CIL recorded a growth of 11.3 per cent during the period, the company said in a regulatory filing today.
Company’s production increased by 12.6 per cent year-on-year to 51.4 MT in the month of September. It produced 45.7 MT of coal during the same period a year ago. CIL’s offtake in September increased by 12.6 per cent to 55.1 MT compared to 48.9 MT in the corresponding month of the previous fiscal.
The offtake of the Maharatna firm in the April-September period also went up by 8.6 per cent to 360.7 MT against 332 MT in the year-ago period.
Though the Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) reported production growth of 4.8 per cent and 1.5 per cent during the month of September and April-September respectively, it remained in the top spot in CIL’s overall performance. The MCL remained top among all CIL entities with 89.6 MT coal production during April-September followed by SECL.
The Sambalpur-headquartered coal miner also figured ahead in the coal dispatch with 94.6 MT offtake in the first two quarters; though the growth was flat compared to the corresponding period of last financial year.
