Coal India’s skill development programme for the local youth in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Angul districts of Odisha has come as a ray of hope for scores of unemployed youths.
After the successful completion of training, they have been placed in a comfortable position to earn livelihood. Of the 115-youth trained by CIL, 82 have been observed so far in reputed companies like Amara Raja Group and Motherson India Ltd. The remaining 33 candidates have either opted for local employment or have turned entrepreneurs.
In the ongoing skill development programme, CIL is imparting training to 450 youth in three districts to become a qualified electrician, welder and auto technicians. CIL is bearing the entire cost of the project including boarding and lodging. The state-run miner’s subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) is aiding to identify the eligible candidates from the peripheral villages.
Over the years, CIL subsidiary MCL has been fulfilling its social responsibility for inclusive development of Odisha in more ways than one. CIL itself had helped in restoration of power transmission lines damaged in the state due to Cyclone “Fani” in 2019 with a support of over Rs 50 crore to Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited.
CIL had also sponsored skill development training of 280 youths in plastic engineering trades through Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) at their Bhubaneswar and Balasore centres at a cost of Rs 1.81 crore during the year 2018 to 2020.
