State-owned Coal India Limited (CIL) production increased 7.3 per cent to 61.8 million tonnes (MT) in April, the first month of the current fiscal.
The largest coal producing company though fell short of the target of 780 MT in the financial year 2023-24, it registered a growth of 10 per cent in the production.
The company had produced 61.8 MT coal in the month of April 2024 against 57.6 MT mined during the corresponding month of the previous fiscal, CIL said in a regulatory filing today.
The coal offtake of the company also registered a rise of 3.2 per cent to 64.3 MT last month, over 62.3 MT in the year-ago period.
The company said of the 61.8 MT of coal produced by CIL in the month of April, 16 MT was produced by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) followed by 14.1 MT by South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) and 11.8 MT by Northern Coalfields Ltd among others.
The CIL has produced 773.7 million tonnes (MT) of coal in the financial year 2023-24 (FY24), which was close to a 10 per cent growth over last year. In previous two financial years CIL has increased its production by 151 MT.
This was higher by 22.6 MT than the combined increase of 128.4 MT achieved in six years from FY 2016 till FY 2022. Coal production of 88.6 MT in March 2024 was the highest ever for any month till date.
