India’s nightingale and Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar’s love and affection for Narendra Modi had irked the Congress party as one of its senior leaders even demanded taking back the highest civilian award from the melody queen.
In 2013, when Narendra Modi was the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Lata Mangeshkar had said during a program in Pune that she wanted to see him as the Prime Minister of the country. Congress was enraged by her statement. The then Chief of Mumbai Congress, Janardan Chandurkar even demanded to take back the Bharat Ratna given to Lata didi.
Modi had sharply criticized the Congress and said that Lata Mangeshkar has every right to speak her mind. He had then said in an election meeting in Chhattisgarh that the Congress is so full of pride that it is not even respecting a great singer like Lata Mangeshkar.
Lata Mangeshkar also had high regards for Chhattisgarh’s first Chief Minister late Ajit Jogi who has the privilege to organise the maiden event of Lata Mangeshkar Award instituted by the Madhya Pradesh government in 1984 at Indore, where the legendary singer was born. Jogi, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, was then the District Collector of Indore.
The then Indore legislator and powerful Congress leader, Suresh Seth was against the programme and had passed derogatory remarks against Lata that came to her notice. Lata refused to go to the programme. Ajit Jogi intervened and it was only because of him, Lata agreed to attend the programme. Since then, she has very high regards for Jogi and she showered her affection as elder sister, Amit Jogi said in a tweet while paying rich tributed to Lata Mangeshkar.
Despite request, she used to call Jogi Ji as “Collector Saheb”.
