Congress MLAs suspended from Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly over paddy procurement uproar

Congress MLAs were suspended from Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly during the on-going budget session after the Chair rejected the adjournment motion on mismanagement and irregularities in paddy procurement for the financial year-2025-26.

Leader of Opposition Dr Charan Das Mahant, former CM Bhupesh Baghel and other Congress MLAs raised the issue of mismanagement and irregularities in paddy procurement for the financial year-2025-26 during the zero hour in the House. The Congress MLAs demanded the Chair to allow urgent discussion on the mismanagement and irregularities in paddy procurement.


Leader of the Opposition Dr Mahant said that the State government’s policy on paddy procurement had failed. Farmers of the state had faced a lot of problems in selling their paddy, they were harassed in the name of tokens. The Congress moved the adjournment motion on this issue.


Former CM Bhupesh Baghel accused government for not wanting to discuss on paddy and the issues of the farmers. Chhattisgarh is under the rule of officials he added. Congress MLA Byas Kashyap said that only 93 percent of the farmers in Janjgir district had sold their paddy. Farmers were harassed and they had to fight for their rights, and FIRs were filed against them. Congress MLA Dwarikadish Yadav said that the issue of paddy and farmers is linked to the interests of Chhattisgarh. Farmers are still hopeful that procurement will resume.

After Presiding Officer Dharamlal Kaushik, who was in the chair, rejected the adjournment motion, the Congress MLAs entered the well of the House, leading to the suspension. The Congress MLAs also created uproar in the House. The Chair revoked the suspension of the Congress MLAs after few minutes.
