Party today announced 10 candidates for Rajya Sabha elections

Congress late Sunday evening announced 10 candidates for the Rajya Sabha elections which will be held for 57 seats across 15 states on June 10.
Of the seats, two would be from Chhattisgarh, three from Rajasthan and one each from Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.
The Congress party has nominated journalist-turned-political Rajiv Shukla and former Bihar MP Ranjeet Ranjan as its candidates from Chhattisgarh where the party is in power.
The list includes prominent Congress leaders like P Chidambaram, Mukul Wasnik, and Ajay Maken. Vivek Tankha will be Congress candidate from Madhya Pradesh while P Chidambaram will go to the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu.
Earlier today, the BJP released a list of 16 candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls, fielding Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman from Maharashtra and Karnataka respectively.
Of the 16 candidates, six are from Uttar Pradesh.
The party is eyeing to send Gulam Nabi Azad to the Upper House from Jharkhand. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren had met Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi and held a discussion over Rajya Sabha seat from Jharkhand.
The Congress is eyeing fielding their candidate for the Rajya Sabha berth from Jharkhand. However, Soren had been of the view of fielding a common candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat from the Congress- Jharkhand Mukti Morcha- Rashtriya Janata Dal alliance.
The decision was pending as Soren said the name would be announced soon.
