Raipur, January 9
The District Congress Committee Raipur urban on Friday staged a vehement demonstration outside the Devendra Nagar police station in the Chhattisgarh capital in protest against the alleged surge in crime.
The agitation was led by Committee President Shreekumar Shankar Menon. The Congress Committee was protesting the brutal killing of youth Amar Vishwakarma in Fafadih under Devendra Nagar police station area. “There is a lot of anger among the general public of the city regarding this heinous incident,” Menon said.
During the demonstration, Congress workers demanded immediate arrest of the culprits, justice to the victim’s family and strengthening of law and order in the city. A large number of Congress workers and local citizens participated in the protest.
Menon said that incidents like murder, looting, stabbings and assaults were continuously increasing in Raipur city, due to which common citizens were forced to live in an environment of fear and terror. He described the incident as the result of gross negligence of the police administration and said that the morale of the criminals is high and the police are proving to be a complete failure in maintaining peace and order.
The Congress President warned that wherever such criminal incidents occur in the police station area, the party will take to the streets and protest and work to wake up the police administration. The Congress party will not allow any kind of compromise with the safety of the general public, he added.
Besides former MLA Kuldeep Juneja, a large number of party workers were present in the demonstration.
