Raipur, December 16
The Raipur City Congress Committee (DCC) on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the authorities against the fines imposed on vehicle owners by the traffic police.
The Congress workers led by City Unit Chief Shreekumar Shankar Menon staged a protest outside the office of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). The delegation submitted a memorandum urging the authorities to take immediate action.
Former MLA Kuldeep Juneja, former Raipur Mayor Pramod Dubey, senior Congress leaders Pankaj Sharma, Suresh Thakur and others were present on the occasion.
Menon said the traffic police had been sending e-penalty to the people that ranged from Rs 500 to Rs 5000. “The move of traffic police is causing severe harassment to the common people as fines are imposed without underlining which areas are earmarked for no-parking,” Menon said, adding that the state government had been earning a huge amount of money while common people are in a fix.The Congress committee demanded that the authorities should first improve the road conditions and regulate the traffic arrangement to minimize road accidents before imposing and collecting huge penalties from the common man.
