Mother of Unnao rape victim among 50 women in the list

Congress party has released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022 covering 125 constituencies.
In the first list, 40 per cent of the total tickets have been given to women candidates while 40 per cent to the youth.
Congress General Secretary and UP In-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, while announcing the candidate list, in a press conference said that Congress is giving tickets to 50 women out of 125 total candidates in the first list. “With this historic initiative, we hope to bring in a new kind of politics in the state,” she said.
The list includes the mother of Unnao rape victim, said Vadra. “From Shahjahanpur, we have fielded Asha worker Poonam Pandey who led an agitation for a raise in honorarium,” she added.
In the past few months, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra announced several women-centric promises including smartphones to Class 12 pass girls, electric scooters to graduating women, and skill development schools for women.
A ticket from Umbha has been given to the leader who raised her voice for the Sonbhadra massacre victims. Ticket to Asha worker Poonam Pandey from Shahjahanpur. Congress leader, Sadaf Jafar, who went to jail for anti-NRC agitation has been given a ticket from Lucknow Central.
