Jaipur, September 27
The Congress disciplinary committee on Tuesday issued show cause notice to three members including two ministers in the midst of political crisis in Rajasthan.
Besides Rajasthan ministers Shanti Dhariwal and Mahesh Joshi, the Congress party has served notice to MLA Dharmendra Rathore seeking their response for allegedly raising revolt in the Rajasthan Congress. The three are staunch supporters of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, the confidante of Gandhis who has now brought the party’s high command on the edge.
Since last night, 92 MLAs in Rajasthan have offered to quit amid discussions that Sachin Pilot could be Gehlot’s successor. The Rajasthan Chief Minister is contesting the Congress President polls but has made it clear where his heart lies. Literally, he is in no mood to quit the Chief Minister’s office.
The political crisis in the otherwise smooth election process erupted after Rahul Gandhi advocated ‘one man, one post’ principle, indicating Gehlot has to leave Jaipur. What further complicated the matter was indication of Pilot coming as his successor, propelling Gehlot supporters to raise a revolt.
The Congress observers had to return from Jaipur without holding the CLP meeting as over 90 MLAs loyal to Gehlot refused to attend it. They also put forth certain conditions for the selection of Gehlot’s successor. The Congress observers reported that few members had committed “gross indiscipline” and organised the parallel meet of MLAs. They do not allow the CLP meeting to take place.
The report has however not sought any action against Gehlot while recommending action against three of his loyalists. The three Rajasthan leaders have been asked to reply within 10 days why action should not be taken against them for grave indiscipline.
