JDU on Wednesday suffered a major jolt when the party spokesman and former treasurer, Prof Ranbir Nandan Prasad resigned from the primary membership of the party.

Prasad, who was a former  MLC, alleged that the coterie led by the National President of the party, Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh was hell bent upon damaging Nitish Kumar politically.

He is the second spokesman after Dr Ajay Alok to quit. Dr Ajay later joined BJP. Former MPs, R C P Singh and Upendra Kushwaha had also resigned recently. RCP, who was union mines and steel minister, also joined BJP and Kushwaha floated a new regional party.

Ranbir Nandan Prasad told this correspondent today he would be joining the BJP on October 11, birthday of Jayaprakash Narayan.

Ranbir, who is a professor of Geology in Patna University, said Lallan Singh telephoned him and talked in a language which hurt his sentiments. He questioned his loyalty and literally scolded him for issuing statements suggesting unity of minds between Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar as both were honest and dedicated to development works only. “I decided to quit the party due to dictatorial behaviour of Lallan Singh,” he said.

He predicted  due to the dictatorship of Lallan Singh, many self respecting leaders in the party would resign soon. Lallan had questioned his support to the Women’s Bill and my statement welcoming the meeting of Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar during G 20 dinner in New Delhi.

“Our National President lacks political maturity and is running the organisation like a mufassil body”, Ranbir said doubted the political integrity of Lallan Singh. He feared actions of Lallan may damage Nitish Kumar.

Umesh Kushwaha, State President of JDU said Ranbir Nandan has been expelled for six years on the instructions of the National President.
