Kochi, October 18
Anupama has been desperately searching for her year-old baby that her father and a Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader has reportedly disowned.
The baby boy went missing after three days Anupama delivered him last year. And the alleged political influence of her Communist father has separated the infant from her mother.
Anupama S Chandran, the daughter of a Peroorkada CPI-M area committee member P S Jayachandran and a former SFI leader fell in love with DYFI Peroorkada area president Ajith. Anupama’s parents were not keen on the relationship as Ajith was already married. Anupama and Ajith could not start living together as he had not legally divorced his wife.
Meanwhile, Anupama got pregnant and gave birth to a baby on October 19 last year. According to Anupama’s complaint, the child was taken away from her by her father and relatives three days after the delivery. They had promised that the baby would be brought back once Anupama’s sister was married off. But it never happened.
Anupama and Ajith alleged that P S Jayachandran was using the power of the ruling party to cover up the case. Jayachandran is also General Secretary of Thiruvananthapuram Centre of India Trade Unions (CITU).
In the past few months, the couple have written to top CPI(M) leaders including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI(M) State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, LDF Convener Vijayaraghavan, Director General of Police, and others. “It was only Brinda Karat who responded to our complaint and referred it to CPI(M) leader Sreemathi teacher, who too did not help,” the couple alleged.
Jayachandran said he gave up the child for adoption with Anupama’s consent. Anupama and Ajith said they never consented to giving up their child.
The Child Welfare Committee in the state said they never received a child for adoption from Jayachandran. Despite police complaints, there was no action against Jayachandran.
The baby turns a year old today. But instead of celebrating the birthday, the hapless parents are in search of the infant.
