In the deep silence of lockdown, creativity and silence is prominently finding space. And Konsam Romesh from a far flung area of Manipur has proved it.

26-year-old Konsam Romesh Singh from Awang Jiri Maming Leikai in Imphal West district has come out with an innovation, designing and crafting a unique mobile phone tripod using bamboo.

He has posted the entire tutorial video on his youtube channel Romesh Craft.

The pandemic lockdown had come as an opportunity for the youth who had zeal to design and create innovative products.

Romesh wanted to purchase a mobile phone tripod online for his video assignments. But due to continuous lockdown, he couldn’t place an order online as there was no delivery service.

“So, I thought of making it of my own and the idea clicked to craft it from bamboo,” said Romesh.

The innovative and sustainable mobile tripod weighs around 300 grams and its length is expandable up to 4.5 feet. It took around a week to complete the product and it costs just Rs 800.

Romesh bagged the Merit Award for Outstanding Craftsperson of the Year 2019-2020 for the unique mobile phone tripod made out of bamboo. Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh took to Twitter to congratulate the young talent and posted a tutorial video on how he designed the bamboo tripod.

Having started crafting with bamboo as a hobby in 2018, it has now become his passion which he hopes would turn out to be a promising career. Romesh believes that bamboo craftworks are sustainable and also promotes natural resources available in the state.
