The Fort Worth police in America had solved nearly half-a-century old mystery related to the murder of a teen cheerleader with the arrest of a 77-year-old man.
The victim, Carla Walker, 17, was kidnapped and murdered on February 17, 1974. The police have arrested Glen McCurleyon Tuesday in connection with the incident. He is 77 now.
The police investigation said Carla and her boyfriend Rodney McCoy were on a date when attacked as they sat in his car outside a bowling alley. McCoy was injured and had to be hospitalised.
Carla’s body was found three days later in a culvert near Lake Benbrook in Tarrant County, police said. Carla Walker was a junior at Western Hills High School, while McCoy was a senior.
According to police, Carla Walker was beaten, tortured, raped and strangled, and then her assailant dumped her body near the lake.
The case gained renewed interest in March 2019 after detectives discovered a letter related to the murder and shared it on social media. The letter that investigating police officials decoded referred to the murder of Carla.
The crudely written letter, released Friday and addressed to Detective Lt. Oliver Ball, mentions Walker after some blacked-out material that may be a name. After the redacted material, the letter appears to say, “killd Carla Walker in Benbrook.”
The further investigation led the police to solve the nearly century old case.
