Helpless to do anything over the violence going on in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Dinesh Trivedi today resigned from the Rajya Sabha.
Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Dinesh Trivedi took everybody by surprise when he announced quitting as Rajya Sabha MP.
Addressing the Upper House, Trivedi said that he was grateful to his party for sending him to the Rajya Sabha, but was feeling suffocated as he is not able to do anything to stop the violence in West Bengal.
“I’m feeling suffocated that we’re not able to do anything over violence in the state. My soul tells me that if you can’t do anything sitting here, then you must resign. I will continue to work for people of West Bengal,” Trivedi said.
“I am standing at that stage of my life where I have to decide what is important for me – my country, party or myself? It is better to resign than to keep silent. I am feeling suffocated (in the party) and thus resigning from Rajya Sabha,” he said.
“There comes a time in the life of every man when he heeds the voice of his conscience. We enter politics for the country. Two days ago, we saw the PM and Leader of opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad exchange emotional greetings. That was all about their love for the country,” Trivedi said.
“While I was the Railway minister in UPA, I faced similar predicament. Even today the world is watching us. The world is looking at the India over its fight against Covid-19 and the Prime Minister has led this fight successfully,” Trivedi said hailing Narendra Modi’s leadership.
Though Trivedi didn’t reveal anything about his future plans on whether he will continue with TMC but speculations are rife that the former Railway minister may soon join the BJP.
