Stung by the COVID-19 induced lockdown in 2020 that severely impacted many businesses, Chhattisgarh however, sought to bounce back with mega ticket deals in various sectors and seeking to live up to its image of a favourable investment destination.
“In last two years, Chhattisgarh has attracted investments worth Rs 43000 crore for setting up new industries that will generate employment for 64,000 people,” Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said in his Republic Day speech in Jagdalpur. The attractive industrial policy and industrial friendly atmosphere created by the people played an important role to induce investment, he added.
The Chief Minister reiterated that his government would purchase Nagarnaar Steel Plant (NSP) if the Centre tried to sell it to the private sector. “The public sector undertakings have been the backbone of Indian economy but efforts are made to weaken it,” Baghel said, adding that the Congress government in Chhattisgarh was ready to purchase NSP and an official resolution was passed in the state legislative assembly.
“The state government is committed to protect the natural resources,” Baghel added.
Chhattisgarh government had spent Rs 1336 crore in the last two years to bear the cost of a scheme that facilitates people to pay half electricity bill. In all, 3.8 power consumers have been benefited, the Chief Minister said, adding that during the period, average 2000 villages every year have been provided electricity supply through the grid.
