Despite pandemic threat, 65% trains on tracks

Despite the serious threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Indian Railways had now managed to put 65 per cent of Mail and Express Trains on tracks.

Following the outbreak of the pandemic, the train services were stalled. It was restored gradually. Indian Railways is now running a total 1138 Mail/Express including Festival Express trains everyday in different Zones of Indian Railways,” a statement from the ministry said.

All important destinations across the country are connected by the special trains while the Railways had been constantly reviewing to run the trains on the new route and restore the services. In pre-COVID times, Indian Railways was running 1768 Mail/Express trains per day.

It is noteworthy that a total 115 pairs of Mail/Express trains have been approved so far in the month of January 2021.

In addition, currently Indian Railways is operating a total 4807 Suburban Train Services per day in different Zones of Indian Railways. In pre-COVID period, average 5881 Suburban Train services were operational.

Apart from this total 196 passenger train services are also operational in Indian Railways. In pre-COVID times average 3634 passenger train services were operational across the country.
