A special court in Raipur on Wednesday remanded former Chhattisgarh Excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma to seven days Enforcement Directorate (ED) custody.
Kawasi and his son Harish Lakhma were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the infamous Rs 2000 crore liquor scam that rocked Chhattisgarh. They were arrested after ED summoned them at its office and quizzed them though both were interrogated earlier in the case.
In the liquor scam, former IAS Anil Tuteja, Raipur Mayor Ejaz Dhebar’s brother Anwar Dhebar, Excise Department officer Arun Pati Tripathi were arrested earlier. They were accused of a liquor scam with fake holograms.
In this case, Kawasi Lakhma and Harish Lakhma were also called for questioning by ED on 28 December. After the interrogation on December 28, the ED had also questioned Kawasi Lucknow and Harish Lakhma on January 3. Both were released after several rounds of questioning.
The father and son were produced in the court amidst heavy security cordon in the evening after medical examination. They were produced before the special court where the central agency demanded 14 days remand to further interrogate the former Chhattisgarh Minister who is also sitting MLA from Konta assembly constituency.
The court granted seven days remand and asked to produce Lakhma on January 21.
