ED quizzing IAS officer for last 10 hours

A team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is questioning Jharkhand’s Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Rajeev Arun Ekka for the last 10 hours in its Ranchi office.

Rajeev Arun Ekka, a 1994 batch Jharkhand cadre IAS officer, reached the ED office at 11.00 a m on Monday. He was still in the ED office when the last report came in as officials of economic intelligence agency were still questioning him.

The ED team had issued summons to the officer for the first time on March 15. Ekka did not appear citing official engagement and sought time. The central agency issued fresh summons and called him on Monday.

BJP leader Babulal Marandi released a video in a press conference in which he claimed that IAS Rajeev Arun Ekka was seen settling the file sitting in the house of middleman Vishal Chowdhary. The IAS officer is alleged to have a very friendly and close relationship with Vishal Chowdhary, the investor of black money of politicians and bureaucrats.

According to officials, Rajeev Arun Ekka appeared before Enforcement Directorate officials in Ranchi in connection with the probe into alleged irregularities in the MGNREGA scheme and money laundering related to the cases against Pooja Singhal. Ekka, former principal secretary to the chief minister, is alleged to have signed official documents at a private place. He was removed from the Chief Minister’s office soon after the allegations was levelled against him by the opposition.
