Ranchi, May 6

In a major crackdown against corruption, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday conducted raids at multiple locations in Ranchi and recovered Rs 25 crore from the household help of Sanjiv Lal, Personal Secretary (PS) to Rural Development Minister Alamgir Alam.

The amount could increase as the counting of huge cash was still going on. The ED team raided a total of 9 locations in different areas of Ranchi. In the raid, Rs 25 crore cash was recovered from the house of Jahangir Alam, servant of minister Alamgir Alam’s PS Sanjeev Lal. The officials have pressed note counting machines into service and expect that that figure could increase.

Apart from this, news is coming out that ED has recovered Rs 3 crore from the flat of builder Munna Singh in Tejaswini Apartment located in PP Compound. Munna Singh is also said to be close to minister Alamgir Alam’s PS Sanjeev Lal.

According to information received from sources, servant Jahangir Alam has told during ED’s interrogation that this money belongs to the minister’s PA Sanjeev Lal. ED action is continuing in the case.

Reacting on the development, Minister Alamgir Alam said that Sanjeev had been PA of two ministers before joining him. “Sanjeev is my departmental PS, he is a government employee and we hire PS only after seeing his experience,” the Minister said, adding that based on his working with two ministers earlier, he was deputed with him.

The action reportedly came as a follow up of engineer Virendra Ram’s arrest. The ED had arrested Ram, Chief Engineer of Jharkhand Rural Development Department, in February 2023 in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the implementation of some schemes.

It is noteworthy that in the month of February last year, ED had raided 24 locations of Chief Engineer Ram. A cash of Rs 30 lakh, jewelries worth Rs 1.50 crore was found from the premises of this Chief Engineer of Jharkhand. Apart from this, ED had also discovered his movable and immovable assets worth more than Rs 100 crore.
