The opposition’s on-going protest against a minister’s alleged involvement in a murder case took a ugly twist today when the suspected BJP activists hurled eggs at Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s carcade near Hospital Chhak in Puri.
The Chief Minister he was returning after laying the foundation stone for the ambitious Srimandir Heritage Corridor Project in the pilgrim town on Wednesday.
The security agencies had an input of disturbances and heavy deployment of police and security personnel were put in place. The Opposition activists were able to break the cordon before showing black flags and hurled eggs at the Chief Minister’s carcade.
The CCTV footages accessed by the investigating officials revealed that three youths were involved in the protest. BJYM, the youth wing of the BJP, claimed that its activists were involved in the incident.
“Eggs were pelted by us. Black flags also waived by us. Wherever the CM goes, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) will agitate. If ‘tainted’ minister Dibya Shankar Mishra is not expelled or no action is taken against him, the protests will continue,” Irasis Acharya BJYM Odisha president, said.
The protest was against the State government allegedly intervening in the investigation into the murder of Kalahandi lady teacher Mamita Meher.
