Eight killed as bus falls into drain

Chandigarh, December 27

Eight persons were killed and many were injured on Friday when a private bus they were travelling in met with an accident on the Bathinda-Talwandi Sabo road.

The ill-fated bus was carrying over 45 passengers when it fell into the Lasara drain in Jeewan Singhwala village. Bathinda DC Showkat Ahmad Parray and SSP Amneet Kondal, along with other officials and an NDRF team, rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation.

The SSP confirmed eight passengers were killed in the mishap. The victims include a child and the bus driver. The injured have been shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. The Police and authorities are conducting rescue operations and investigating the cause before taking legal action against those responsible.
