Sonali Pawar, wife of engineer Ashok Pawar, has appealed to Maoists to release her husband without harming and forgive if he has committed any mistake.

Ashok, who was abducted by the suspected Maoists yesterday, was working for a private construction company engaged in a bridge project in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

The rebel has also taken hostage another employee of the Construction company that has bagged a contract for building a bridge on Indrawati. The engineer, Ashok Pawar along with his team was on a site visit when armed Maoists struck and took him hostage. The incident took place under the limits of Bendre police station.

According to sources, the engineer reached the site before the security personnel had conducted the area domination and road opening. The security forces deployed in the area have been providing security cover to the employees engaged in the infrastructure projects that rebels have been opposing.

“My husband has come to Bastar to work and arrange a day’s meal for the family,” Sonali said, adding that he is the sole earning member in the entire family. They have two small daughters and Ashok has been working in Bastar to meet their needs, she added.  

Sonali said she appeals to release her husband without harming and pardon him if he has committed any mistake.
