The central election committee of BJP on Tuesday nominated former Congress candidate Manan Kumar Mishra as its candidate for the bye-election to Rajya Sabha from Bihar .
Mishra who is chairman of Bar Council of India, had successfully contacted the Bihar assembly elections in 2010 as a Congress candidate. He was in the legal cell of AICC also. Later, he was a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate for the Lok Sabha elections from Champaran.
According to BJP leaders here, name of Mishra was not in the panel sent from Bihar unit of the party. The state unit had reportedly recommended the names of former Union Power Minister Raj Kumar Singh, Party Secretary Rituraj Sinha, party veteran Prem Ranjan Patel for the post.
A senior party leader regretted, “The party preferred a person who was loyal to Lalu, Rabri family and called them his parents than loyal BJP leaders.”
The midterm election was necessitated following resignation of Vivek Thakur, who was elected to Lok Sabha from Nawada constitutency.
To fill up the vacancy caused by the resignation of Misa Bharti of RJD, who was elected to Lok Sabha from Patliputra, former Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha has been fielded by the NDA.
