Explosive detonates at desolate Mosque premises in Bihar, one killed

A powerful explosive ripped through a desolated Mosque premises in Bihar’s Banka district, killing the Imam and injuring six others.

The incident took place on Tuesday morning as the explosive rocked the town. The intensity of the blast or the volume of the explosion stored could be gauged by the reports that the entire structure of Madarsa that adjoined the Mosque was razed.

According to police officials, Imam of the Noori Masjid was killed in a powerful explosion in the Madarasa attached to the Mosque at Banka, 250 kms east of Patna. Six people were injured.

Banka Superintendent of Police Arwind Kumar Gupta, who rushed to the site, said the FSL team was investigating the explosion. Assistant Director of FSL Shrestham Kumar, who collected samples from the mosque, said the materials were being examined.

Bhikhu Miyan, uncle of the Mosque Imam Abdul Sattar, said his nephew was injured in the blast and while being taken to Bhagalpur Hospital, he died in a vehicle, 25 kms from Banka.

Due to lock down, the Madarsa located at Navroliya under Town police station was desolated for the last two months. No student was present. When the police party reached the spot, there was no one to guide from the Madarsa or the mosque. The officials said further investigation would reveal why the explosives were stored in the premises.

Following the explosion, all male members of the residential colony escaped, police claimed.
