Five beaten to death for allegedly practising witchcraft in Chhattisgarh

Five members of a family were brutally beaten to death for allegedly practising witchcraft in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district on Sunday.

The incident took place in Itkala village near Muraliguda camp under Konta police station area. The victims were identified as Mausam Kanna (60), Mausam Bucha (34), Mausam Biri, Karka Kachi (43) and Mausam Arjo (32). Of them, three are women. All the five belonged to the same family, police officials said.

A few people in the village suspected that witchcraft was being practiced by the family that resulted in the devastating incident. In a fit of rage, a group of villagers of the same village reached the house of the victim and started beating the women and men with sticks.

They were thrashed till all the five collapsed, police said, adding that all of them died on the spot. After getting information about the incident, the police party along with Superintendent of Police Kiran Chouhan reached the spot. The police acted promptly and nabbed all the five accused.

The officials said further investigation into the incident was in progress. The accused will be interrogated to reveal the exact cause that led to the sensational murder.
