Five persons including four minors were killed when the DCM, vehicle used for transportation, in which they were travelling turned turtle and plunged into a river in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia district on Wednesday.

Many passengers are reported to be injured in the incident that took place at around 6 am near Buhara village under Tursada police station limit. Police sources said the condition of a few was reported to be critical.

The ill-fated vehicle was carrying 30 people from Gwalior to Jatara in Tikamgarh district for a marriage ceremony. The preliminary investigation suggested that the driver lost control over the wheel and the vehicle hit the railing of an under construction bridge before plunging into the river.

Though unconfirmed reports put the casualty figure at 10, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said five casualties had been confirmed.

The level of water in the river was five to six feet. Reports said the victims were drowned to death. Besides a 65-year-old woman, a boy aged 15 and three children were killed in the accident.

The senior administrative and police officials reached the spot and supervised the rescue and relief operation.
