Five Maoists killed in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, June 7

Security forces gunned down five Maoists in an encounter that took place in Narayanpur district on Friday.

Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar confirmed the incident and said three jawans were injured in action. However, their condition is reported to be out of danger.

Kumar informed that security forces from three districts namely Kondagaon, Bastar and Narayanpur conducted the joint operation. Besides the jawans from the 45th Battalion of the ITBP, personnel from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Dantewada and Jagdalpur were included in the team.

The fierce encounter took place in the Gobel forest of Abujhmad. Gobel is a dependent village of Thulthuli Panchayat of Orchha block.

Kumar said the rebels fled the spot. During the search operation conducted in the area, security forces discovered the bodies of five Maoists. The slain rebels were in uniform. The blood spots indicated a large number of Maoists were injured in the gun battle.
