Four Maoists were killed in a fierce gun battle with the security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Tuesday.
Bastar Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P said four bodies of Maoists had been discovered from the spot. The blood stains on the spot indicated that the casualty on the part of rebels would be more, he added.
A team comprising jawans from the CRPF, its elite wing CoBRA, District Reserve Guard, Bastar Fighters on Tuesday morning launched anti-Maoist operation Korcholi-Lendra forests under Gangalur police station limits. The rebels laid an ambush and attacked the party.
The security personnel immediately took the position and gave a befitting reply. The rebels later retreated. The security personnel launched a search operation in the area and discovered the bodies of four Maoists. The identification process was on, officials said.
Automatic advanced weapons were also recovered from the spot.
All the jawans are safe, the officials said, adding that the team was likely to return to the base by afternoon.
Today’s incident was the second major crackdown against the Maoists within a week in Bijapur. On Wednesday last, six Maoists including a deputy commander of the outlawed wing were killed in an encounter with the security forces in Basaguda.
