The Bhupesh Baghel government in Chhattisgarh would serve free rice to the poor people for five months to carry out COVID combat in the state.

“The state government would provide rice free of cost to all the card holders in the category of below poverty line (BPL),” state government spokesperson said. The beneficiary could avail the freebie for five months effectively from July.

Besides, the Chief Minister has also announced to give additional rice equivalent to Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Yojana to all ration cards issued under the State Food Security Act. Over 20.5 million people in Chhattisgarh would be benefited with the announcement.

The Chhattisgarh government had provided free rice in the months of May and June to the poor and needy families covered under the public distribution system. With the announcement of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, now rice for the month of July to November would also be given free of cost to the poor families. Those holding the Antyodaya ration card, priority ration card, Annapurna ration card and ration card holders issued to the destitute and handicapped would get a big benefit.

The step taken by the Bhupesh Baghel government would be a big relief for the people, especially in the rural folds, combating the contagious virus.
