The Indian film and television industry is filled with the rags to riches stories. A person having successfully directed more than 25 television shows and films now selling vegetables makes an interesting script.
It is not a play but a reality associated with Ram Vriksha Gaur, who has directing serial and films for the last 22 years. The COVID-19 hit him hard, making realise what real life is beyond the reels.
Ram Vriksha Gaur, one of the directors of the famous Indian soap Balika Vadhu, is selling vegetables in Azamgarh district to make his meets end. Interestingly, he had come to Azamgarh to do a recee for a film.
He along with his peers were stuck when the lockdown was imposed making it impossible for them to return to Mumbai. The project which they were working on had to be stopped midway.
The producer for the film had informed Gaur that it would take another year or more to get things back on track.
Knowing no way out of the crisis, Gaur then decided to take on the job he is familiar with- selling vegetables on a handcart. He, while talking with leading news daily said that his father used to do the same business and has “no regrets.”
Gaur was working on a Bhojpuri film and then on a Hindi film but the pandemic ruined all the plans. He owns house in Mumbai and plan to return once normal life is resumed.
The director went to Mumbai in 2002 and had firstly worked in the lighting department. He then slowly progressed to the production department of TV serials. He became assistant director for many Indian soaps that led him to become the episode director and even unit director of Balika Vadhu–the original clutter breaker of Indian TV leading the pack when it comes to socially relevant shows.
